Low-carb keto breakfast FAQ
We’re about to jump into all the yummy recipes, but first, let me answer a few questions you might have about what to eat for breakfast when on a low-carb diet or keto diet.
Yes, if you’re tired of always eating eggs on a low-carb diet, you can enjoy grain-free sugar-free granola, unsweetened yoghurt, low-sugar berries, cooked bacon, keto pancakes, keto waffles, or keto green smoothies. Besides eggs, you can also eat meat, cheese, vegetables, and nuts for breakfast.
No, you don’t need breakfast every day. The myth of “breakfast is the most important meal of the day” is not actually nutritional advice, but instead, a marketing slogan. Dr. John Harvey Kellogg and fellow 7th Day Adventist James Caleb Jackson invented this slogan to help sell their breakfast cereals in 1917.
Most modern breakfast cereals are made with grains, sugar, and ultra-processed oils.
Many people do enjoy breakfast each day but equally, many people are finding the amazing benefits of intermittent fasting. They skip breakfast entirely and their eating window is between 12 noon to 8 pm, called a 16:8 fast. But when you do want to eat breakfast that is sugar-free, low-carb, or keto these breakfast recipes are quick and easy options.

My big problem with low carb meals is that my son is allergic to nuts and so many recipes include them! Is there something I can use instead of almond flour?
YES! I have just written a post on this exact topic – Coconut flour vs almond flour. You might also want to look at my coconut flour waffle recipe, plain and chocolate. Eggs would be a great breakfast alternative and seed bars etc. Many recipes can be adapted from nut free, to something he can tolerate. Welcome and I hope you can find some nut free low carb recipes here with me. 🙂

I have a question, sadly I hate eggs, yoghurt, milk, granola and salmon (and my husband doesn’t eat pork), it’s there actually anything left as an option?
Low carb bread, chia with coconut cream, waffles, cheese, steak, bacon (for you, not your pork averse husband) … But another question would be, what are you currently eating? That seems like a long list of things to hate. Eggs can be made 101 ways, granola there are so many flavours, salmon, there are so many other types of fish.
I’m a fussy eater that loves carbs, I eat.granary toast and a fair amount of pasta, I’m a massive cheese fan too. I don’t like eggs and what they are, I’ve tried for years to change my thinking re eggs, but I just can’t stomach them, even as a quiche or egg fried rice. It’s not the flavour of granola it’s what you mix it with ie milk or water etc. I’ll have a look at the options you’ve suggested, though I guess with how fussy I am, I might struggle long term.
“A fussy eater that loves carbs” – It’s time to get serious about introducing new foods to your limited selection. But don’t worry, it can absolutely be done. My son was the carb king, loving his toast, pasta, rice and pizza. We took it one step at a time and expanded on each new food. Eventually, I promise your taste buds will change, as long as you keep trying. Why not come and join me in my closed Low Carb Support Group? You can get lots of support and help over there on a daily basis.
Well I tried the keto muffins, my mum would like them, my first exploded in the microwave, second was better, but unfortunately even after toasting I could taste eggs very strongly. I tried the fathead crackers, very very good, hopefully would go well with the broccoli soup I’m going to try. The paleo seed bars are an aquired taste, I’m wondering if I could use any nuts? You’re definitely right about a slow change, my husband isn’t really interested but he’s also the cook of the house. My worry is that if I slowly lower my carbs but am eating more fats I will infact gain weight :/
The support group ,might be a good place to start
Yes, come and join my support group, it’s a fabulous place to ask all those little questions, for some, on a daily basis. It will take some time to adjust your carb/fat balance because you need more healthy fats to feel full, but you don’t want to have too many carbs which will encourage hunger and fat storage. You’ll settle on the right balance soon. An easy place to start, is to start cutting back on all snacks if you can. They can be so many peoples down fall. See you in the group 🙂
I am in the same boat. My family especially my son has major food allergies chicken, fish, wheat, beans, milk and Soya, nuts, turkey, eggs. So would be interested in any answers you get
Love these recipes, but my son has many food allergies that are actual allergies
Beans, chicken, poultry, fish, eggs, all nuts, dairy, Soya, wheat, at the moment he Eats what’s on the lower scale end but suffers a lot. He Eats a lot of Carbs and trying to find alternatives to diet tablets. Any help would be helpful.
Viv that must be tough, especially being allergic to eggs, dairy and nuts. So manny recipes are based on those. What carbs is he eating if he is allergic to wheat and dairy? I don’t have any recipes here that include soy, wheat or beans, so you’re good on that front. Can he manage coconut cream? If yes, he could try chia breakfast recipes. Ghee (clarified butter so many who are allergic to dairy can tolerate ghee) and other meats such a beef or pork? He could enjoy last night’s dinner for breakfast? My children love that. I am in the habit now of keeping extra leftovers for breakfast or their school lunches. Take a look at my recipe archives and see what things he would enjoy and can tolerate.
Vegetarian Keto, Outstanding
Thanking you so much for the options, right up my alley
